Handyman costs in Grand Prairie: what stays and what gets replaced

By

Owner & Operations Manager

I’m Chance O’Shel, owner of The Smart Fix Handyman. We serve Grand Prairie. In this sample, several jobs could be called “door work,” yet they covered very different repairs.

I’ll show each job, then explain what stayed in place and what was replaced. The larger exterior project also shows why a combined price should stay tied to its full scope.

What did the jobs cost?

Three of the eight jobs were below $500. Three reached $1,000 or more. Here are all eight, including the $4,598 project at the top of the range.

Work recorded Whole-job price
Adjust existing garage-door lock hardware $140
Install four customer-supplied closet shelves $175
Replace part of an interior door jamb and prepare it $368
Replace a shower valve cartridge $578
Level a small entry floor with self-leveling concrete $940
Exterior door jamb and trim replacement $1,031
Drywall crack repairs across several rooms $2,262.35
Siding and trim repair, paint and fence staining $4,598

Eight Smart Fix Grand Prairie job totals from $140 to $4,598, with a $759 median.

Smart Fix records: 8 jobs, March 25 to August 10, 2026. Prices cover whole jobs.

The $759 median falls between the $578 shower-cartridge job and the $940 floor-leveling job. Those are unrelated tasks. The median shows the center of the sample, not the price of either repair.

Did the door need new hardware, a new frame or a new door?

The $140 job adjusted existing lock hardware. It did not replace a garage-door opener or work on springs.

The $368 job replaced a damaged part of an interior jamb, then sanded and filled the surface ready for primer. Its scope did not list finish painting.

The $1,031 exterior job went further: a new jamb set and exterior trim, with the existing door rehung and adjusted. The door itself stayed in place. For door repairs, show the damaged frame as well as the door itself, and ask how it will be finished.

Why was the largest job $4,598?

It combined missing siding, damaged trim and exterior paint with fence work. The fence scope included washing and prep, then stain on one side after it had dried enough for coating.

Materials accounted for $1,238 of the total. The work also included a damaged stud area behind the siding. This is not a fence-only price, and the record does not give enough fence length to quote a price per foot.

For fence repairs, tell us which sides you want coated and whether repairs are needed first. Keep siding or trim work on the list as separate tasks.

What did the larger drywall price cover?

The $2,262.35 job covered crack repairs across several rooms, including seam work, sanding and matched texture. It was broader than one small patch.

A wide photo of each room helps show how spread out the work is. It also helps separate the repair area from other surfaces you may want painted. The price alone cannot tell us what caused a crack or what your wall needs.
