Light fixture installation costs in Dallas: 5 real jobs

By

Owner & Operations Manager

I’m Chance O’Shel, owner of Smart Fix. If you’re pricing a new light, the first thing I want to know is what is already there. These Dallas records show why swapping two supplied lights can cost less than fitting one fan that needs new support.

What each job cost

Work in the analyzed job Job total
Two supplied closet light replacements $175.00
Supplied ceiling fan with a new support brace $309.00
Two pendant fixtures; $816 in work and supplies, less a $480 prior-project credit $336.00
Hallway light replacement $361.20
Interior LED replacements and exterior light work $2,100.00

Two lights can cost less than one fan

The two closet light replacements totaled $175. The customer supplied both lights and their hardware, and the work used the existing locations.

The $309 fan job used a supplied fan. It also needed a new fan-rated support brace. That is a useful difference to look for in a quote. The light or fan needs a sound place to mount, as well as room to fit.

The hallway light job was $361.20. The old light hung low enough to get in the way of a door. The work was a replacement with a fixture closer to the ceiling. This record does not list a separate fixture purchase price.

What was included in the $2,100 project?

This was a larger update, with new LED lights inside and work on outdoor lights. The scope listed 22 recessed LED disks indoors, plus outdoor wall-light installation. It also included materials.

The $2,100 covered the indoor and outdoor work together. It does not tell us the cost of one light. The other records range from a pair of simple swaps to work that needed new support.

The two pendant lights came to $816 in work and supplies. A $480 credit for an overpayment on an earlier project reduced the recorded total to $336. Use the $816 scope price when comparing that job with a new quote. The sample median uses the recorded $336 total.

What should I have ready for a quote?

Share the number and type of fixtures, the ceiling height, and whether you already own the replacements. A link to the fixture and a clear view of the current mounting point can help us check the work.

Let us know if you want a new location or wiring changes. The jobs in this sample used existing locations. We review the exact work before booking and confirm the right service for it.

About these prices

I used our September 20, 2026 job records for this guide. These jobs fit the scope above. We counted each job once and checked its total against issued invoices. Prices include parts and tax where listed, after any discounts or credits. Parts the customer supplied are outside these prices.

The median is the middle price, or the average of the middle two in an even sample. Dates refer to recorded work starts. These are past Smart Fix prices, not a survey of all firms or a quote for your home. We removed names, addresses and private job details.
