Handyman costs in Spring: prices from real local jobs

By

Owner & Operations Manager

I’m Chance O’Shel with Smart Fix. We serve Spring, and this sample covers 16 of our jobs. Most cost less than $500, but one ceiling repair needed demolition, new drywall and a full finish. Those steps help explain the price range.

The price spread across 16 jobs

Fourteen of the 16 jobs cost less than $500. The median was $267.38. The largest job reached $2,172.50. Its scope went well beyond the small repairs shown below.

Selected job scope Job price
Adjust a sticking front door $175.00
Repair two wall dents, match texture and apply supplied paint $227.50
Replace a supplied fan, replace a closet-door track and secure trim $260.75
Rehang a pocket door, adjust it and reinstall trim $489.25
Remove damaged garage ceiling drywall, replace it, texture and paint $2,172.50

The ceiling price covered removal through paint

The $2,172.50 garage ceiling job began with removing fallen and loose drywall. It included collecting debris for disposal and fitting new drywall over about 50 to 60 square feet. It also included seam work, texture, primer and paint.

This was overhead work with several finishing steps. The total included $160 in materials. It is not a square-foot rate for every ceiling repair. The size of the damage matters, as does the finish you want.

The $227.50 wall job was much smaller. It involved two dents, texture matching and customer-supplied paint. The price included $40 in patching and prep supplies. Both jobs involved drywall. Their task lists show why they cost different amounts.

A pocket-door repair did not mean a new door

The $489.25 pocket-door repair kept the door and its hardware. The work included removing trim as needed, rehanging the door, adjusting it and putting the trim back.

The $175 front-door job called for hinge, latch and fit adjustments without reframing the opening. Both were repairs to existing doors. Neither price tells us what a new door would cost to buy and fit.

When asking about door repair, tell us what goes wrong. Point out where it rubs, whether it latches and whether it comes off its track. That helps us plan the right work.

One visit can contain unrelated small tasks

The $260.75 job combined three tasks: a supplied ceiling fan, a new closet-door track and loose trim. The work included testing the fan, rehanging the existing closet doors and securing the trim. Small supplies accounted for $17.

That price covers all three tasks. It is not a price to fit a fan on its own. If you have a short list, share all of it when you call so the quote reflects the whole job.
