When did a gate repair stay below $500?
The $175 job adjusted both leaves of a double wood gate. The work reset the hinge points, added shims as needed and lined up the latch so the gate could move without dragging.
The $468.40 job needed parts replaced. We removed a damaged hinge-side board and bent hinges, fitted replacements, then rehung and adjusted the gate. That total includes a discount recorded on the job.
These examples show the value of checking the support and hardware before pricing a new gate. They do not prove that every leaning gate can be adjusted. If the wood is damaged or the support has moved, the scope may be larger.
What was behind the $2,850 price?
That project rebuilt 38 feet of fence. It included three new posts set in concrete, new rails and pickets, and work to rehang and align the existing gate with new hardware.
Dividing the whole price by 38 would mix gate work into the fence footage. It would also turn one repair project into a rate for a new fence. The job total is useful when its full scope stays attached.
The $140 record is a confirmed fence repair visit, but it does not itemize the exact task. We kept the price in the table without calling it a post, picket or gate repair. It is not a published minimum charge.
What should I show you before a quote?
Show the damaged section, the posts at each end and the gate hinges and latch. Give an estimate of the affected length. Tell us if the gate drags, will not latch, or moves along with the post.
That lets us discuss whether the work is an adjustment, a parts repair or rebuilding a section.
