How much does drywall repair cost? Real jobs and quote details

Drywall repair cost depends on more than the size of the hole. A patch left ready for paint and a repair with insulation, texture, and painting are different jobs.

Smart Fix’s current pricing is $145 per hour, with a $170 repair minimum. A Smart Scan in-person assessment costs $95, and phone or photo review is free. The written repair quote establishes what your job includes.

Real Smart Fix drywall repair costs

These are published completed-job totals, not a market average or a price menu. Follow each link to see the scope behind the number.

Completed project Recorded total Scope that matters when comparing
Dallas drywall patch $513.25 Patched and smoothed; left unpainted at the customer’s request.
Fort Worth office patch and paint $530 Drywall patch, texture, and paint blending.
Plano garage drywall repair $565 Drywall near the opener, a sagging section, and a wall hole.
Fort Worth drywall wall repair $735 Repaired surface left ready for paint.
Plano water-heater area repair $1,060 Water-damaged drywall, insulation, texture, and paint work.

A small sample of our jobs can’t tell you what every homeowner should pay. It can show why a quote needs a clear scope. The $735 job didn’t include the same finishing endpoint as the $530 job.

What changes the quote

The damaged area and what caused it

A doorknob hole in otherwise sound drywall is easier to define than a spreading ceiling stain. With moisture damage, the leak needs to be addressed and the affected material assessed before the wall is closed.

Several nearby holes may be handled together. Damage scattered through a furnished home can add setup and protection work even when the combined patch area is small.

Access and wall construction

A high ceiling, stairwell, or crowded room changes access. The repair may also need backing, insulation, or replacement of more board than the visible hole suggests.

Panel thickness and type need to suit the existing wall. For a rated assembly, the repair must preserve its specified construction. A generic sheet of board isn’t enough information.

Texture and paint

Ask what “finished” means. It could mean sanded compound, a matched texture, primer, spot painting, or repainting a full surface.

Texture and paint blending have limits. Existing paint may have aged, and the sheen may differ even when the color name matches. The quote should explain the proposed finish and any likely visible difference.

Why a DIY patch-kit price isn’t a repair price

A store-bought patch kit covers some materials. It doesn’t include diagnosis, room protection, labor, or finishing the wall to your chosen endpoint.

If you plan to do part of the work yourself, agree on that before booking. For example, you might want us to leave the patch ready for your painter. That should be explicit, just as it was on the completed jobs above.

What to send for an estimate

Take one close photo with a ruler or familiar object for scale, then one wider photo showing the wall or ceiling. Tell us how the damage happened and whether the area is dry. Include the ceiling height if access is awkward.

Mention any matching paint you have and whether you want spot painting or a full wall painted. Don’t cut open suspected hazardous material to improve the photo.

Send your drywall repair photos to Smart Fix. We’ll review them for free and tell you whether an in-person Smart Scan would help define the scope.
