Hank’s and Smart Fix both offer employee-based handyman services in Dallas. That means “we use employees” doesn’t settle the choice between us. A better starting point is the written repair plan and the terms that come with it.

What Hank’s currently offers
Hank’s website says its team consists of full-time employees and offers a free home walk-through. That gives you a way to discuss several jobs in person before choosing a contractor.
Smart Fix uses W-2 employees, as described on our about page. Our phone or photo review is free. A Smart Scan is a $95 in-person assessment, separate from the repair.
If an on-site visit matters to you, Hank’s published offer is a useful advantage to investigate. Confirm what the visit covers and whether any part of your requested assessment carries a fee.
The warranty needs the current terms
Hank’s terms and conditions say warranty coverage depends on the service, project, and materials. The applicable periods and exclusions are in the project documents. We couldn’t verify a blanket five-year warranty from those current terms.
Smart Fix provides a written one-year labor guarantee for covered workmanship. We should both be able to give you the terms for your proposed job before you agree to it.
For a repaired cabinet or door, ask what happens if the same symptom returns. The contractor may need to determine whether the repair failed or another part of the assembly moved. A clear claim process is useful alongside the duration.
What a fair price comparison looks like
We didn’t verify a current public hourly rate for Hank’s. Smart Fix charges $145 an hour with a $170 repair minimum. That doesn’t establish which company will quote less for a finished repair.
Consider our Dallas drywall patch project. The recorded price was $513.25, and the customer chose to leave it unpainted. If a second quote includes a full-wall repaint, the two prices describe different results.
When asking either company for that sort of repair, have the estimate address these points:
- The size and location of the repair, including any access limits.
- Whether the finish includes texture, primer, and paint.
- The process for approving additional work if hidden damage is found.
For a mixed repair list, mark what must happen on the first visit. Ask how each company handles tasks that need another day to finish.
Reviews and insurance still need a local check
Read recent reviews linked from each company’s own site and match the business name to the estimate. Look for a repair like yours and details about follow-up. A large review count across unrelated services won’t answer every question about one drywall job.
Request current insurance information from both companies if it’s part of your hiring check. Smart Fix publishes $1 million in liability coverage on our about page; that statement doesn’t verify another contractor’s policy or the coverage for your particular loss.
